Lizards

There are three species of Lizards in the UK; Sand lizards, Common Lizards and Slow worms. They are all protected under UK law. There is a wealth of information online from sources such .gov.uk (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/reptiles-protection-surveys-and-licences) and Froglife (http://www.froglife.org/info-advice/lizards-identification/).

Some development activities such as building work, may affect reptiles. Due to their protected status, if this is the case, you might need to provide compensation or mitigation. If you are planning to develop a site you could be required to survey your area to find out if reptiles are using your site. For more information check out our video on Lizards.
