Abrehart Ecology Ltd’s Protected Species Services
Abrehart Ecology Ltd provides protected species services nationally, this includes surveys for European protected species (EPS) and those protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended) and Protection of Badgers Act 1992. The discovery of protected species on a site often starts with a Phase 1 survey, early identification of protected species during your project can help it run smoothly in the future. Our ecologists are skilled and highly experienced at surveying and advising on all of the following protected species:
European protected species
Our surveys for EPS provide information about the location and size of any populations on site. If protected species are identified within a site we have the experience to provide advice on the mitigation and compensation elements could be needed to meet the requirements of Natural England and the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) for further work.
We provide advisory services for the following species:
freshwater pearl mussel
little whirlpool ramshorn snail
all UK bat species
great crested newt
Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981
The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended) is the UK’s primary legislation for protecting wildlife, it now also implements EU law such as the Convention of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats (Bern Convention) and Birds Directive. The Act covers a wide range of wildlife law and includes important legislation protecting the following:
breeding birds (with additional protection level for Schedule 1 species, such as barn owl)
the prohibition of certain methods of killing or taking wild animals; and
restrictions on the introduction of certain animals and plants.
